Esther S. Prentice, 93, of Damariscotta, passed away on the morning of March 19, at Cove’s Edge, with her loving family present. The daughter of Pearl and Florence (Lane) Spear, she was born in South Bristol Aug. 12, 1914.
Attending Bristol schools, Esther married Kenneth W. Prentice, Sr., Oct. 2, 1930 and resided in Bristol for many years. For much of her career she worked as a buyer clothing at Ethel’s Dress Shop, in Damariscotta and Senter’s Department Store, in Brunswick. Esther also owned and operated her gift shop on Main Street in Damariscotta for several years. She and her husband had a lifelong love for camping. The couple also lived in Hope Sound, Fla. for over 20 years, until Kenneth’s death in 2000.
Esther is survived by three children, Georgia B. Leeman and husband Carroll of Round Pond, Kenneth Prentice, Jr. of Orlando, Fla., and Betty Jane Stevens and husband Ray of Bradenton, Fla.; four grandchildren, Scott Leeman and wife Jenny of Round Pond, Brenda Killam and husband Wayne of Prince Edward Island, Canada, Russell Chandler and wife Dorothy of Ashland, Va., and Robin Chesser and husband David of Jacksonville, Fla.; nine great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren and special family friend Fred Selph of Orlando, Fla.
Esther will be privately laid to rest, with her husband, at the Chamberlain Cemetery, Round Pond.
