Ethel Carney Plummer, 83, of Sheepscott Village, went home to her Lord and Savior on the morning of Dec. 2.
She was born in Damariscotta on April 27, 1927, the only child of Roswell and Ruth Carney. She married Donald Plummer on Aug. 18, 1944. In their early years of marriage they lived in many locations due to Donald’s U.S. Navy enlistment during WWII. After the war they settled on the family homestead in Sheepscott Village where Ethel raised her children.
Ethel’s main goal in life was to be a great wife and a loving mother to her children. Ethel exceeded this goal many times over. There was never a time that anyone was turned away from her home. Though she had five children of her own, many others called her “mom.” As her children grew, so her family grew. Ethel loved being a grandmother and adored each of her grandchildren. She was thrilled watching them grow and them giving her great-grandchildren. She was especially proud when she became a great-great-grandmother.
She was predeceased by both of her parents; daughter-in-law, Marie Plummer; sons-in-law, Bob Lermond, Sterling Collamore and Francis Davis; best friend, Evangeline Jordan; and dog, Ling Ti.
Ethel is survived by her loving husband of 66 years, Donald Plummer; daughters, Dianne Davis of Hope, Eileen Plummer of Gardiner and Beverly Plummer-Weatherhead of Damariscotta; sons, Paul Plummer of Wiscasset and Mark Plummer and wife Crystal of Newcastle; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, as well as too many friends to list.
Per Ethel’s wishes a drop-in celebration of her life will be 1-3 p.m., Sat., Dec. 18 at the Damariscotta American Legion Hall followed by a private burial at the Sheepscott Cemetery with immediate family. We welcome all to attend the Celebration of her life to share condolences, memories and photos.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Ethel’s memory may be made to Elder Power, 277 Main St., Suite 1, Damariscotta, ME 04543.
