Ethel Hooban Bryant, 92, of Bristol, died at The Lincoln Home, Feb. 13. Born in Waltham, Mass. on May 18, 1916, she attended grade schools in Rye, N.Y. and graduated from Kearny High School in New Jersey in 1934. Ethel had lived in The Lincoln Home since February 2008.
Known for her sense of humor, Ethel spent the years 1940-1969 in Brooklyn, N.Y. and Nutley, N.J., raising her family and helping with the back office activities of Shoplite Company, founded by her husband. In 1969, Ethel and Stuart sold the business and returned to Maine, settling in Bristol where they became active in the Pemaquid Gallery.
Ethel was predeceased by her husband of 61 years, Stuart Graham Bryant of Newcastle who died in September, 2001; and daughter, Mary Ann Skoug, who died in New Jersey in December, 2003.
She is survived by her son, David of Rancho Mirage, Cal.; grandsons, Christopher Skoug of Pemberton, N.J., and K. Niles Bryant of San Francisco; and granddaughter, Sarah Holly Bryant, of Hoboken, N.J.
She will be laid to rest at the Pine Knoll Cemetery, Newcastle, in the spring.
