Eunice W. Blanchard, 89, of Bennington, N.H. and summer resident of Christmas Cove, died peacefully at Pheasant Wood Center in Peterborough, N.H. on Oct. 28. She was born in Needham, Mass. on Sept. 30, 1924, the daughter of G. Gordon Watt and Elizabeth (Eddy) Watt.
Eunice married Robert L. Blanchard Jan. 20, 1945 who preceded her in death in 1987. They moved to New Durham, N.H., then to Antrim, N.H. and then in 1952 she and Robert moved to Bennington to start a family and build their farm.
Eunice worked in Bennington as a dairy farmer for 30 years while raising her children – George, Robert, David and Elizabeth. She also ran the kitchen at the Crotched Mountain Ski Area. Eunice worked at Camp Winamac many years in Bennington and at Plants Alive in Bennington.
Eunice was a member of the 4H Club and the Eastern Star and was a library trustee at GEP Dodge Library in Bennington. Eunice attended The Bennington Congregational Church and enjoyed singing in the choir for much of her life. Eunice loved her time gardening, sewing, cooking, crafting, teaching, and reading and most of all, enjoyed spending summers at her cottage built by her and her family in Christmas Cove.
Eunice was also preceded in death by her son, George Blanchard; sister, Jean Watt; and brother, Robert Watt.
She is survived by sons, Robert A. Blanchard and wife Mary of Bristol, David L. Blanchard and wife Linda of Bennington, N.H.; daughter, Elizabeth Dillinger and husband Chuck of Ajax, Canada; eight grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren; and brother, Douglas Watt of South Bristol, and Pasadena, Cal.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Thurs., Nov. 7 at Jellison Funeral Home, 25 Concord St., Peterborough, N.H. Burial will take place at the West Bristol Cemetery in South Bristol.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions in Eunice’s name be made to the Bennington GEP Library, 2 Main St., Bennington, NH 03442, or to the Bennington Fire Rescue Association, 7 School St. – Unit 103, Bennington, NH 03442.
