Evangeline “Vangie” O’Brien, 89, of Damariscotta, passed away on the evening of May 31, with her loving family by her side, at Glenridge in Augusta. Born on Sept. 16, 1928 in Rockport, she was the daughter of Edward and Flora (Davis) Noyes.
Vangie grew up in Rockport, attending local schools before going to Portland where she graduated high school. In 1949, she married John C. O’Brien and the couple raised their three children together in both Portland and Round Pond.
Vangie worked at the Cheechako restaurant in Damariscotta for several years where she tended bar. She loved spending time with her family and friends, whether it was watching the New England Patriots, playing cards, or camping. She and John took their camper to Florida and Arizona for several winters and enjoyed their time together. Vangie was an avid reader and enjoyed doing crossword puzzles, but more than anything she loved being with family and friends.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, John; granddaughter, Shelly O’Brien; and 12 brothers and sisters.
She is survived by children, J. Craig O’Brien Jr. and wife Betsy of Bristol, Susan Collamore of Damariscotta, and Mark O’Brien and wife Karen of Pittston; grandchildren, Amy O’Brien, Andrea Krah, Stacey Simmons, Robyn Collamore, Travis O’Brien, and Brady O’Brien; as well as many great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m., Thurs., June 7 at the Maple Grove Cemetery in Round Pond.
