Evelyn Dorothy (Jones) Hatch, 91, of Damariscotta passed away Feb. 15 at her home with her loving family by her side.
Evie, as she was known, was the daughter of Loantha and George Jones. Evie was born and raised in Damariscotta Mills. She was a graduate of Lincoln Academy and was a member of the basketball team that won the 1938 state championship.
She married Boynton Hatch on March 1, 1941. They made their home in Damariscotta and raised their four children together.
Evie was a lover of the outdoors. She enjoyed skiing and skating while growing up. She worked for many years at the Yellowfront Grocery and also as the bookkeeper for Hatch Brothers’ Builders.
Evie enjoyed going to meet the girls for early morning coffee and continued this tradition until she was no longer able to drive.
She had a talent and a passion for woodworking. At the family home she had a complete woodworking shop and the family remembers Boynton often saying she had better tools than he did. Many people and grandchildren were able to enjoy her wood creations of toys, birds and other wooden things.
She was predeceased by her loving husband Boynton of 62 years; two sons, David A. Hatch and Dana A. Hatch; brother, Randall Jones;, two sisters, Georgia Nicoll and Amelia French; and great granddaughter, Charly Jane Simmons.
She is survived by son, Fred B. Hatch and wife, Claudia, of New Harbor; daughter, Pamela H. Reed and husband, Robert, of Damariscotta; sister, Marjorie Oliver of Georgetown; 18 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren; and eight great great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Evie’s memory to Cove’s Edge Skilled Unit, 6 Schooner Rd., Damariscotta, ME 04543.
A private graveside will be held at Hillside Cemetery in Damariscotta where she will be laid to rest beside her husband, Boynton and son, Dana.
