Evelyn W. Hathorne Roberts, 94, of Hallowell, died March 12 at Glenridge Nursing Home in Augusta.
She was born Jan. 16, 1914, the daughter of Hartley and Mildred Bishop Hathorne in Woolwich.
Evelyn attended Woolwich and Bath schools, graduating from Morse High School in 1932. After high school she trained to be a nurse at Bath Memorial Hospital and Mass General in Boston. She worked many years at Bath Memorial Hospital and at Togus Veterans Hospital for 25 years.
For many years she was active in the Eastern Stars and the Kennebec Kennel Club. Evelyn was the first to introduce Shetland Sheep Dogs to the area. She won many medals with her dogs.
She was predeceased by her husband Harold Roberts, brother Alvin Hathorne and sister Madeline Delong.
Survivors include brothers, Sam Hartley Hathorne of Edgecomb, Bernard Hathorne of Gardiner, and Merle Hathorne of York; sisters, Rita Delong of Daytona Beach, Fla., Verlie Grover and Leah Harmon, both of Wiscasset, and Barbara Hallet of Bridgewater; and several nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.
Visitation 12-2 p.m., Mon., March 17 at the Simmons, Harrington & Hall Funeral Home, 975 Wiscasset Rd., Boothbay, with funeral service immediately following. Interment will be in Oceanview Cemetery, Boothbay.
