Fernald A. Cunningham, 85, of Nobleboro, passed away at the Gregory Wing in Boothbay Harbor, on the morning of Nov. 11. Born on March 12, 1928 in Whitefield, he was the son of Paul and Irene (Crocker) Cunningham.
Fernald grew up here, attending local schools before joining the U.S. Army and serving honorably during WWII. Upon his return from the Army, he went to work for Round Top Farms, Crooker’s Construction, and the Nobleboro Central School.
He enjoyed camping, fishing, hunting and spending time with his family.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Donna Jean (Rice) Cunningham; daughter, Vonceal Grant; and sisters, Mildred and Wilma.
He is survived by his sons, Phillip Cunningham, and Owen Cunningham and wife Deborah; half-brother, Robert “Bob” Cunningham; grandchildren, Rebecca Baldwin, Matthew Cunningham and wife Jennifer, Jason Cunningham, and Stephanie Grant; and great-grandchildren, Abagail and Spencer Ainsley Cunningham.
A private graveside service will be held at the Dunbar Cemetery in Nobleboro, with the Rev. Richard Newell officiating.
