Filmont W. “Nick” Foss, 79, of Nobleboro, died Feb. 1 at Pen Bay Medical Center in Rockport. He was born Feb. 18, 1930 in Roque Bluff (Machias), a son of Clarence and Elsie Elizabeth Foss. He grew up in Machias and attended local schools.
He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. After the war he lived in Connecticut working at the Amberbelle Mill in Rockville. He married Nancy Voisine in 1964. He later worked at American Steel. He moved to Maine in 1973. He worked as a crane operator at Bath Iron Works for 22 years, retiring in 1995. In retirement he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and his cat, Diablo, also known as fat-boy.
He enjoyed playing poker and cribbage. He coached Little League baseball and Babe Ruth baseball. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinals and Miami Dolphins fan. He also enjoyed watching the Three Stooges and Western movies.
He was predeceased by a grandson, Jason Christ.
He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Nancy J. Foss of Nobleboro; daughter, Jean Marie Christ of Georgetown; sons, Leonard and James Foss, both of Nobleboro; brother, Nelson Foss of Manchester, Conn.; sister, Laverne Johnson of Holyoke, Mass.; and grandchildren, Patricia and Nicole, both of Georgetown.
Memorial service 10 a.m., Fri., Feb. 5 at the Hall Funeral Home, 949 Main St., Waldoboro.
