“Flossie Belle” went to be with her beloved husband of 40 years, Norman Elliott Sr. on April 16. They were married in Damariscotta on Jan. 25, 1942.
She was born Jan. 10, 1924 in Bristol, one of 11 children of Flora B. Morton and Perlie E. Lane. She attended Bristol schools and graduated from Bristol High in 1941.
She worked at many different jobs through her life, packing eggs, shrimp, fish etc. Her serious vocation was as an expert wallpaper hanger and painter, working in many homes in the area.
When not working or raising five boys, she was searching for Indian artifacts from South Bristol to North Haven Island, amassing a fine collection. On occasion she would take it to school and display it for the students.
Later in life she worked diligently on the Lane and Morton family genealogy, taking us almost to Adam and Eve. She was a member of the Mayflower Association and the Benedict Arnold Expedition Society.
Her biggest wish in life was to raise a brown-eyed, brown-haired daughter, but after five boys in six years she gave up the ghost and settled for collecting dolls.
She was predeceased by her husband, Norman Sr.; son, Stanley; grandson, Chris; great-granddaughter, Charly Jane Simmons; and stepchildren, Howard, Norman Jr., Lee and Katherine Parmenter.
She is survived by sons, Ralph of Newcastle, Carroll and wife Judith of North Whitefield, Craig and wife Rosemary of Bristol, Wayne (Bobby) and partner Shirley Wellman of Damariscotta; special cousin, Ethel (Sis) Herald of Newcastle; sister, Hazel Genthner of Bristol; brother, Lyndon Lane of Bristol; special granddaughter, Melissa Simmons of Bremen, who cared for her the laws few years of her life; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.
At her request, there will be no funeral service. A private service will be held at a future date.
