Forest E. Poland, 79, of Thomaston. died Sept. 27 at his residence after a period of failing health.
Mr. Poland was born Sept. 4, 1930 in Bremen, the son of LaForest W. and Mildred Burns Poland, and attended schools in Bremen.
In 1950, he joined the U.S. Army, and served during the Korean War, re-enlisting after his discharge in the Army National Guard, which he served until 1959.
An employee of the Maine Department of Transportation, he drove plow trucks out of the Edgecomb Maintenance Facility for over 20 years.
He is a member of the Post #1 American Legion, serving as the post chaplain for two years, life member of Post #2499 Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the 40 & 8 for 20 years, all in Rockland. Forest enjoyed visiting family and friends, doing word search puzzles, and hunting deer.
He is predeceased by his wife Marvel Burns Poland, who died in 1980.
Survivors include his daughter Mildred “Millie” Poland of Thomaston; and granddaughters, Amanda Widdecombe of Thomaston, and Marie Crockett and husband Harry of Warren.
Graveside service 2:30 p.m., Tues., Oct. 6 at the Maple Grove Cemetery in Round Pond.
