Frances Bryant, 99, of Burlington, Mass., passed away peacefully at her home on Dec. 13. She was born on Sept. 29, 1914 in Alna to Walter S. and Bernice J. Jones.
Frances attended the Alna Village School and was a graduate of Lincoln Academy, Class of 1932, in Newcastle. After high school she attended the Maine School of Commerce in Auburn. She remained in the Lewiston-Auburn area where she was employed in the office of J.W. White Lumber Co. of Lewiston. After her marriage in 1942, she worked as a private secretary to the Transportation Officer at Camp Wheeler, Macon, Ga. In later years she was a clerk typist for Physicians Billing Service in Bath.
Frances was the widow of O. Cleveland Bryant. They celebrated 60 years of marriage in 2002. After retirement, she and Cleve spent summers at their home in Nobleboro on Damariscotta Lake and winters in Sarasota, Fla. Fran and Cleve hosted many gatherings of family and friends in both Maine and Florida. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Nobleboro for many years.
Frances was predeceased by her six siblings: five brothers and one sister.
Frances is survived by daughters, Barbara Pillsbury of Lyman, Suzanne Wing of Burlington, Mass., and Cheryl Hammond of Huntsville, Ala.; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She was a very special and remarkable wife, mother, grandmother and friend.
There will be a graveside service in the spring at the Alna Center Cemetery, Alna.
