Frances Mary Donohoe, 91, formerly of Cozy Harbor on Southport Island, died June 14 at Cove’s Edge in Damariscotta. She was born Oct. 3, 1920 in Lawrence, Mass. to William Henry Briggs and Helen Hayden Briggs. She grew up in Lawrence and graduated from Lawrence High School.
She married Edward Donohoe and they lived in Venezuela for 24 years where Ed worked for General Electric running their Caterpillar operation. They lived on Southport Island for 45 years. Frances was a member of the Boothbay Region Garden Club, Southport Library, Opus Dei, and was a Girl Scout leader. After moving to Damariscotta, she volunteered for the Miles of Friendship.
She was a kind, gracious, soft spoken, patient and thoughtful person. She was devoted to her faith. She also loved reading, baking, needlepoint, dancing, golf, bridge, bowling, and especially spending time with her family. She loved “living by the sea.”
She was predeceased by her husband, Edward Donohoe who died in 2010.
She is survived by son, Martin Donohoe of Portland; daughter, Elena Shaw of Afton, Minn.; granddaughter, Sonrisa “Sonny” Shaw of Afton, Minn.; and great-grandchildren, Rafferty Kiedrowski Shaw and Lyla Kiedrowski Shaw of Afton, Minn.
Funeral mass 11 a.m., Wed., June 27 at Our Lady Queen of Peace in Boothbay Harbor. Father Frederick Morse will officiate. Burial will follow in the Decker Cemetery on Southport Island.
