Francis G. Reed, 96, of Waldoboro, died Feb. 14 at Fieldcrest Manor, Waldoboro, following a brief illness.
Mr. Reed was born May 22, 1911, in Springfield, Mass., the son of Benjamin and Ella Simmons Reed. He attended local schools, and college in Boston for agriculture.
Following his graduation, he came to Waldoboro to tend his family’s farm, which he operated until the business climate made it difficult to continue. He then went to work at the Waldoboro Meat Locker as a meat cutter, from where he retired after 30 years.
Mr. Reed loved to go boating, and loved to take family and friends fishing during the summers.
He is predeceased by his wife, Dorothy Ann Lovejoy Reed.
Survivors include a son, David Reed and wife Judith of Waldoboro; granddaughter, Denise Walls and fiancé Brandon Nichols of Friendship; grandson, Charles Reed and wife Yvonne of Waldoboro; and great-grandchildren, Charles Reed II of Ft. Riley, Kan., Derek Reed of Waldoboro, and David Walls of Friendship.
Services will be private. Interment will be in Brookland Cemetery, Waldoboro.
