Francis V. “Frank” Colby, 61, of Boothbay, died at home early on the morning of Feb. 7, after a long courageous battle with lung cancer, with his wife Pat at his side. The son of Ernest C. Colby and Priscilla (Giles) Colby Bryer, he was born in Boothbay, Feb. 8, 1947. Attending Boothbay schools, Frank entered the U.S. Army, serving honorably in combat, during the Vietnam War.
His varied career included lobstering, auto repair, welding and painting and in recent years, he and his wife owned and operated their antique shop called Attic Treasures. Frank was a professional musician traveling throughout New England with his band “Middle of the Road-Country”. He was an accomplished guitarist and lead vocalist, playing regularly until his illness.
Frank was predeceased by his parents; step-father; brother, Donald Bryer; and niece, Liticia Bryer.
He leaves his loving wife, Patricia Gatto of Boothbay; three children, Shannon Colby, Victoria Brown, and Janice Warring; four grandchildren, Devon, Parker, Anthony and Taylor; brother, Daniel G. Bryer; sister, Shani L. Bryer; stepbrother, Gordon R. Bryer; sister-in-law, Lee Anne Lee; brother-in-law and wife, Phil and Loretta Schreil; many nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles, including a very special uncle, George Giles.
Friends and family are invited to call 1-4 p.m., Fri., Feb. 13 at the Strong Funeral Home, 612 Main St., Damariscotta, with a brief service at 4 p.m. He will be laid to rest at the Evergreen Cemetery, Boothbay, in the warmth of the spring.
