Frederick A. Peck, 96, of Bremen and formerly of Needham, Mass., passed away June 20 at Maine Medical Center in Portland after a brief illness.
Fred was born Oct. 20, 1915 in New Haven, Conn., the son of Harry and Otilia Kricek Peck, and was a graduate of New Haven High School.
Upon his graduation, he joined the U.S. Army, serving in Tunisia, North Africa and Italy, and is the recipient of the Purple Heart.
On Feb. 15, 1946, he married Janet A. Smith and they have celebrated 66 years of marriage together.
Upon his discharge in 1946, he returned home and began his career as a tool and die maker, working for companies that included Beacon Plastics for 20 years and International Equipment for 15 years.
An active volunteer in his community, he worked at the Miles Rummage Sale, sold Daffodils during daffodil days, delivered Meals on Wheels, and was a member of the Odd Fellows in Round Pond.
Fred enjoyed tending his vegetable garden, reading, and traveling with Janet across the country and to Europe.
He is survived by wife, Janet A. Peck of Bremen; sons, David Peck and wife Beth of Bellingham, Mass., and Donald Peck and wife GlennaJoy of Concord, N.H.; daughter, Deborah Peck and husband Ralph Martin of Jefferson; grandchildren, Scott Peck and Christine Peck, both of Bellingham, Mass., Daniel Hanafin of Boulder, Col., and Nathan Peck of Concord, N.H.; great-granddaughter, Breanna Peck of Bellingham, Mass.; and brothers, Donald Peck of Branford, Conn. and Harold Peck of Milford, Conn.
A private family service will be held in Mt. Carmel, Conn.
