Frederick J. Pratt, 89, retired watchmaker, of Boothbay Harbor, died Oct. 14 at St. Andrews Hospital.
He was born Sept. 17, 1917, in Waltham, Mass., the son of Clarence and Marie LeBlanc Pratt. He was educated in Catholic schools and later trained as a watchmaker at the Waltham Watch Company.
In August 1938, he married Gladys DesLauriers of Watertown, Mass. They recently celebrated their 68th anniversary. For 50 years he and Gladys owned and operated Pratts Jewelry and Gift Store in Boothbay Harbor.
Fred served for many years on the Boothbay Harbor Planning Board of Assessors. He was Rotarian since 1948, served as President, and was honored as a Paul Harris Fellow.
Fred loved all animals and working in his huge vegetable garden. He was a strong supporter of local high school sports teams. In the early 1950s he formed and coached the Merchants’ Basketball Team, which was a local semi-pro team.
Survivors include his wife, Gladys Pratt; daughter, Carol and husband Svend Jorgensen of Boothbay; grandsons, Eric Jorgensen of Portland, and Peter Jorgensen and wife Sarah of Amesbury, Mass.; bothers, Robert of Waltham, Mass., Richard and wife Agnes of Bonita Springs, Fla.; sister, Genevieve Drew and husband Bob of Marlboro, Mass.; and three nieces and one nephew.
Memorial service 11 a.m., Sat., Oct. 21 at Simmons, Harrington & Hall Funeral Home, Boothbay.
