Frederick P. McNally, 92, of Waldoboro, passed away April 23 at Central Maine Medical Center. He was born on Feb. 4, 1923 to Moses and Carrie (Gallop) McNally, one of eight children, in Portage Lake. He attended schools in Portage Lake and graduated from Ashland High School. He went on to attend the Maine School of Commerce, which is now known as Husson College.
In 1942, Frederick joined the Army during WWII and received multiple awards for his service, which include the good conduct medal, European African Middle Eastern Theater Campaign ribbon, American Theater Campaign ribbon and the Victory Medal.
After he was discharged from the Army in 1946, he went on to work for Burnheimer grain store delivering grain to local farms for 27 years. He then went on to work for MSAD #40 Medomak Valley High School as a custodian for 10 years. He also worked as a custodian for the Waldoboro Town Office, the Waldoboro Fire Department, the Waldoboro Public Library, and the Waldoboro Transfer Station. In his spare time, he would provide services which included lawn care and outside painting projects.
Freddy was a very dedicated man and loved his community. He donated many hours of service to the town of Waldoboro helping keep the community clean and building for the future. He also volunteered at the Fieldcrest Manor Nursing Home. Freddy was a member of the First Baptist Church in Waldoboro and also a Mason for 50 years.
Freddy’s hobbies included reading, swimming, boating, and smelting and life at camp. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family during family get-togethers and talking with each and every family member and telling stories.
As an honored veteran with the Army during WWII, Frederick recently received a Quilt of Valor from the Lincoln County Quilting Group and also was presented the American Flag in a ceremony given by the students at Medomak Valley Middle School for his service and commitment for our country and freedom.
Frederick is predeceased by his first wife, Muriel Page McNally; second wife, Berniece “Bunny” Orff McNally; parents, Moses and Carrie McNally; son, Wayne F. McNally; sisters, Louisa Gould, Edna McLain, and Ada Howes; and brother, Willard McNally.
He is survived by daughters, Mary Sprague and husband Tim of South Gardiner, and Cindy Michaud and husband Ray of Jefferson; son, Robert McNally and wife Donna of Waldoboro; daughter-in-law, Ann McNally and fiancé Tom Weackus of Rockland; sisters, Ann Olson of Big Lake, Alaska, Elizabeth Poland of Bremen, and Sandra Smith of South Gardiner; sister-in-law, Roberta McNally of Pittsburg, N.H.; step-children, Craig Orff of Boiling Springs, Penn., Brenda Monson of Rockland, and Arnold Crabtree of Union; grandchildren, Michelle Rolerson and husband Dana Jr. of Waldoboro, Lori Tozier and husband Nahum of Nobleboro, Chris McNally and fiancée Bridgett Kinney of Warren, Michael Sprague and wife Jasmine of Norfolk, Va.; step-grandchildren, Becky Baldwin and husband Tony of Nobleboro, Darcy Crabtree of Cushing, Derek Orff of Thomaston, Megan Kenned and husband Doug of Rockland, Elyse Wholey and husband Pat of Hookset, N.H., Katie Orff of Waldoboro, Nathan Michaud and wife Nicole of Pittston, and Ryan Michaud and fiancée Kristina Cook of Farmingdale; 17 great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A visitation to celebrate the life of Mr. Frederick McNally will be held from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m., Sat., May 2 at Hall’s of Waldoboro with a service at 11 a.m. Pastor Tom Rawley will be officiating. A burial will be held at 1:30 p.m., Mon., May 18 at Brookland Cemetery in Waldoboro.
