Gail E. Smith, 66, of Wiscasset, passed away on Sept. 6 at the Maine Medical Center in Portland after a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Athol, Mass., she was the daughter of Roswell and Mildred (Thayer) Ellinwood.
Gail grew up in Edgecomb, attending local schools and graduating from Lincoln Academy in 1960. On Nov. 7, 1964 she married Larry Smith and together they started a family.
Gail was an avid crafter and seamstress. She also loved nature, especially birds, flowers and gardening. She was a great cook and loved to keep her family well fed. She was also a member of the T.W. High Camp Aux. #11 in Bath.
She is survived by her husband, Larry R. Smith of Wiscasset; daughters, Bonnie Knott and husband Dean of Damariscotta, Laurie Smith and partner Cynthia of Brunswick, and Susan Hinderks and husband Robert of Topsham; grandchildren, Dustin Creamer, Megan and Jessica Cloutier; sisters, Merry Zimbalkin of Wiscasset, and Rebecca LaPorte of Sterling, Conn.; brother, Laroy Ellinwood of Edgecomb; as well as several extended family members.
Visiting hours for Gail will be 5-7 p.m., Fri., Sept. 11 at the Strong-Hancock Funeral Home, 612 Main St., Damariscotta. Graveside service 11 a.m., Sat., Sept. 12 at the North Edgecomb Cemetery in Edgecomb.
