Gail M. Moores, 64, of Washington, passed away peacefully at her home on Jan. 31.
She was born on March 2, 1946 in Bangor, the daughter of the late Roland and Celia Wellman Flanders. She was raised in Washington where she attended local schools, finishing her studies at Union High School. After high school she went on to attend Pierre’s School of Beauty in Portland.
Upon completing her coursework at Pierre’s, she began as a beautician at a local Portland salon. Within a few months she decided to open her own salon, which she opened in 1975 and alongside her husband Harold they operated for the next 27 years. Gail would take care of the salon aspect and Harold would take care of the maintenance throughout the building. After retiring in 2002 she moved back to Washington to help take care of her ailing parents.
Gail loved to be outside, whether it was working on a garden or the landscape around the house, she enjoyed working with everything that was attractive in nature. Her vast knowledge of the outdoors was a skill she acquired from her father, Roland. Ceramics, painting or anything craft related she had a natural knack for including making a scale replica of her home out of popsicle sticks. Over the last few years Gail was active with the Women’s Guild of the Washington Village church, lending a helping hand at the annual Strawberry festival. She wouldn’t hesitate to do anything for anyone often offering a helping hand before you had the chance to ask. She set a great example for everyone she came in contact with leaving a lasting impression of love and compassion on all that knew her.
Survivors include her loving husband of 41 years, Harold F. Moores of Washington; sons, Jay Moores and wife Hazel of Pacifica, Cal. and Harold F. Moores II of Indianapolis, Ind.; stepchildren, Brenda Moores of Pittsfield, Ronald Moores of Augusta and Cynthia Paquette of Branford, Conn.; sister, Faye Pease and husband Eugene of Union; granddaughter, Malaya Moores of Pacifica, Cal.; step-grandchildren, Curtis Booth of Pittsfield, Melissa Hall of Branford, Conn. and Shawn Paquette of Branford, Conn.; beloved pet, Shep; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
