Gary H. Tibbetts, 57, of East Boothbay, died unexpectedly on Sept. 24 at his residence.
Gary was born in Boothbay Harbor on Sept. 18, 1950, the son of Clifton “Tince” and Ada Connors Tibbetts.
He was a graduate of Boothbay Region High School, class of 1968. Following high school, he entered the U.S. Navy, serving four years on nuclear submarines during the Vietnam Conflict. After his discharge, he attended SMVTC in South Portland, where he graduated with honors from the first class of its Marine Engineering Program.
Gary was employed by SeaLift in Oyster Bay, N.Y., as a chief engineer on oil tankers, most recently serving in Kuwait and Japan.
He was an avid hunter and fisherman, loved to lobster from his boat, The Maeve Caitlin each summer when he was home from sea. Gary was working towards his dream of building a hunting lodge in Whitefield.
He loved his dog, Gracie Sue and his cat, Fezzik and all God’s creatures.
He is survived by his wife, Rachel A. Tibbetts; daughter, Maeve Caitlin Tibbetts of East Boothbay; half-brother, Burke Hunter and wife Martha and son Mank of Millington, Tenn.; and an aunt, uncle and several cousins from the Boothbay area.
Memorial service 2 p.m., Sun., Sept. 30 at Simmons, Harrington and Hall Funeral Home, 975 Wiscasset Rd., Boothbay.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the Lincoln County Animal Shelter, P.O. Box 7, Edgecomb, ME 04556.
