Gavin Knowlton Wallace, 12, of Waldoboro, passed away peacefully April 14 at his home surrounded by his family and those who loved him.
Gavin was born Nov. 28, 2005 in Bangor, the son of Joshua and Nicole Frances Wallace.
In his earlier years, Gavin would always be on the go. He always had a mischievous smile on his face and you almost always wanted to say ‘what did you do now’ or ‘what did you get into?’ Gavin was a huge fan of music and just like his Nana he was always ready to dance. He loved singing with his Mimi ‘Twinkle Twinkle Little Star’ and when mama and daddy would sing ‘Chicka Chicka Boom Boom’ to him. He loved rough-housing with his aunts and cousins. Traveling, Gavin visited Canada, New York, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Virginia, and DC as well as a few other places. Gavin always loved taking trips to Portland to visit his ‘Glamma’ as well.
Gavin loved his daily routine. He often would smile and laugh when pretty nurses would come to take care of him and was never shy about being a flirt by opening his big blue eyes and cracking a smile. He loved sitting with his brothers and watching movies and his rides with daddy to appointments was always a highlight for them both. In the summer he enjoyed going to the beach with his brothers and step-mother Lydia and being lowered into the water just enough to kick his feet. Gavin always enjoyed outings with his mom and special visits for his Mimi, Auntie Ash and Auntie Chimps. He loved having his cousins come play and would always get so excited to hear music.
Gavin was a fighter and no matter how bad his health got, he managed to smile and you knew it was okay. The impact he had on those he met was profound and, without saying a word, he captured the hearts of many. His determination was so great, when given six months to live at age five, he only got healthier and fought bravely for seven more years.
Gavin is survived by father, Joshua Wallace and step-mom Lydia Powell of Waldoboro; mother, Nicole Wallace and partner Joseph McLaughlin and his son Wyatt, age 4, all of Lincolnville; brothers, Joshua Steven Wallace II, age 11, Ellijah James Wallace, age 6, both of Waldoboro; paternal grandparents, ‘Nana’ Valarie Wallace, ‘Papa’ Rick Wallace, both of Union; maternal grandparents, ‘Mimi’ Stacy Thayer of Bangor, and Robert and Debbie Cushman of Belmont; special ‘Glamma,’ Geraldine Powell of Portland; aunts, Kimberly Hynd of Warren, Heidi Simmons of Friendship, Tiphani Roberts of Milford, and Ashleigh Thayer of Old Town; uncles, Zachary Wallace of Portland, Kooper Underwood of Bangor; many cousins, Conner, Zane, Trevor, Isaac, Julia, Ella, Owen, Anna, and Addie, all who loved him so very much; and many healthcare professionals, teachers and therapists.
