George A. Abbott, 90, of Wiscasset, died on March 21 at Saint Andrew’s in Boothbay Harbor.
He was born on Feb. 28, 1918 in South Portland, a son of the late Roland and Teresa (Johnson) Abbott.
Growing up on Bailey Island, George loved boating, fishing, and the freedom of being outdoors. Throughout his life he was an avid fisherman and hunter, spending much of his free time in the wilderness. George also enjoyed solving mechanical problems; he had a great sense of how things worked, and took pleasure in fixing things for other people. In retirement, George enjoyed gardening, reading, and time with family. He was always an engaging storyteller with a wonderful sense of humor. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family and traveling with his wife, sister and brother-in-law.
In addition to his parents, George is preceded in death by his sister, Elizabeth Lewis.
George is survived by his wife of more than 70 years, Marion Abbott of Wiscasset; daughter, Georgia Blagdon of Portland; twin brother, John Abbott of Damariscotta; younger brother Elliott Abbott of Wiscasset; grandchildren, Elise Brelis and husband Christopher of Rollinsford, N.H., Erica Koenigsberg and husband Steven of Portland, Christine Blagdon of Santa Fe, N.M. and Jay Blagdon of Portland; great-grandchildren, Elliot Pearson, Mitchell Pearson, Athena Brelis, Nathan Brelis, and Ava Koenigsberg; and many nieces and nephews.
George was well-loved and will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Relatives and friends are invited to join the family for a service to celebrate George’s life, 2 p.m., Fri., March 28 at Saint Phillip’s Episcopal Church, Wiscasset. A reception will follow.
