George F. Bredeau, 75, of Waldoboro, passed away on Aug. 28 at Miles Memorial Hospital, after a brief illness.
Born July 7, 1934 in Boothbay Harbor, he was a son of Joseph and Idella Bredeau.
George was a very talented artist. He was known for his beautiful paintings, and he was extremely proud of his gift of art. He was also a very generous person. Though he did not have a lot, he would gladly give you his “shirt off his back” so to speak. He was always willing to help anyone in need.
For many years he worked for Percy Moody of Waldoboro on a variety of things, from maintaining the cabins, painting the diner, helping with the farm, to cutting Christmas trees. He also worked for a number of years for McCormick & Associates as a painter. He was also known for his “murals on his vans,” which he had painted. These were like a mural that he could proudly drive around for people to see.
He is predeceased by his wife Eldora; son, John; brothers, Joseph, Louis, and Richard Bredeau; and sister, Mary Bredeau.
He is survived by his daughters, Sandy Bredeau and companion Ed Nieman of Stillwater, N.Y., Velinda Elwell and husband Alan of Spruce Head, and Carol Dunning and her husband Sammy of Woolrich; grandchildren, Amber and Caleb Elwell; sisters, Shirley Stone of Chelsea, Mass., Joanne Westman of Fairfield, and Jeanette Wells of Melrose, Mass.; many nieces and nephews; and two good friends who were like brothers “Stubby” Burrell of Warren, and “Doodle” Harold Dawson of Bremen.
Memorial gathering in memory of George, along with pieces of his artwork, will be held 2-4 p.m., Sat., Sept. 5. at the Odd Fellows Hall (where he was a member), at the corner of Rt. 1 and 90, Warren. Interment will be held at a private family ceremony at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, George would have preferred people to help someone in need, in his memory.
