George Hart, 88, died peacefully at home on May 18. He was the son of William and Anna Hart and grew up at Arrowhead Farm, Ambler, Penn.
He graduated from St. Paul’s School in 1936 and from Princeton University in 1940.
George was a Lieutenant in the Navy during WWII. He was stationed at the Naval Air Station in San Diego, Cal.
In 1944 he married Josephine Frazier of Renfrew Farm in Roxborough, Penn. After the war, George and Josephine lived in Dover, Mass., while he earned his Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees from MIT.
They settled in Newcastle in 1956 in an abandoned old mansion that was about to be torn down and made it into a lovely place for everyone in the community to enjoy. For several years he worked at Hyde Windlass Company in Bath before retiring to the place he loved on Glidden Point in Newcastle.
George had a lifetime interest in mathematics and music.
George leaves his wife, Josephine; daughter, Maia; son, William and his wife Virginia; son, Frazier; son-in-law, Winslow Myers; granddaughter, Anna Myers. His daughter Kenner Myers and his grandson, Chase Myers, predeceased him.
There will be a service for George at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church on Glidden Street in Newcastle at 11 a.m. on Mon., June 12. There will be a private burial service at some other time.
