George Leon Field III, 72, of Warren, died Oct. 28 at his home. He was born Oct. 28, 1940 in Topsham to George L. Field II and Pauline Harvey Field.
George lost his grandfather, George Field I; his father, George Field II and his brother, William Field in a fire at the family home. This event led to George’s passion to serve his community on the Warren Fire Department. He attended schools in Warren, Brunswick and Florida. He was raised by his mother and stepfather, Herbert Day.
He served in the U.S. Air Force during Vietnam. He married Cynthia Spear in 1963. He worked for D.O.T. for many years as a driver, as a prison guard, for the Town of Warren town works crew and for Stetson’s Saab in Warren. He was a member of the Warren Fire Department for over 50 years, St. George Masonic Lodge in Warren, Warren I.O.O.F., American Legion Post #149 in Waldoboro, and Boy Scouts of America, Warren Troop #254. He was also a member and deacon of the Second Congregational Church in Warren. He married Frances (Parker) Field on March 20, 1988.
He enjoyed supporting his family and his community especially through Tiger Engine Co. in Warren. He also enjoyed hunting, fly-fishing, tying flies, working with leather, fine woodworking, competitive pistol shooting and cheering on the Boston Red Sox.
He is survived by his wife, Frances (Parker) Field of Warren; daughters, Mary F. Field of Prescott Valley, Ariz., Diane Kelley and husband Mike of Warren, and Carol Parker and Linwood Rideout of Nobleboro; sons, George L. Field IV and wife Angela of Warren, Andrew M. Field and wife Victoria of Warren, and Orrin M. Parker and wife Amber of Warren; grandchildren, Angel and Nathan Staples and family of Warren, Gary Thayer and Karalyn Closson of Portland, Tammi and John Santos and family of Largo, Fla., Larry Kelley of Warren, Allison Thayer and Jason Maxcy and family of Waldoboro, Natasha Lamontagne of Saco, Lance Parker of Warren, George L. Field V of Warren, Devin Field of Warren, Tyler Field of Warren, Chelsea Field of Warren, Abigayle Gifford of Nobleboro, Cason Gifford of Nobleboro, Emily Gifford of Nobleboro, and Everett Field of Warren; seven great-grandchildren; and several cousins, and many friends.
Visiting hours will be held 6-8 p.m., Fri., Nov. 2 at the Hall Funeral Home, 949 Main St., Waldoboro. Service to celebrate George’s life 2 p.m., Sat., Nov. 3 also at the funeral home. Rev. Robin Honaker will officiate. A reception will follow the services at the Warren Masonic Hall, Route 90, in Warren.
