George W. Pottle III, 66, of Wiscasset, died May 8 after a long courageous battle with cancer.
He was born in Bath on July 18, 1942, a son of George W. II and Emma (King) Pottle.
He attended Brunswick schools. He was a self-employed contractor and was considered by many as the “wood man”, delivering firewood for many years. On March 6, 2002 he married Donna Philbrook.
He was a member of the Wiscasset Rod & Gun Club, a licensed Master Maine Guide, as well as an avid hunter and fisherman. The loves of his life were his two brittany dogs, Shogun and Vegas.
He enjoyed traveling, training his dogs and spending time with Donna as well as his two best friends, Bill Cossette and “Jed” Dennison.
He is survived by his mother, Emma Perry of Lewiston; wife, Donna Pottle of Wiscasset; two sons, George W. Pottle IV and wife Karen of Bristol, and Jeffrey Pottle and wife Dawn of Brunswick; five daughters, Kim West and fiancé Jesse Waymack of Arkansas, Lisa Ferguson of Phippsburg, Heather Bisson of Dresden, Heidi Warren of Richmond and Harmony Pottle of Brunswick; brother, Ronald Pottle and wife Muriel of Brunswick; sister, Margaret Pottle of Chelsea; 19 grandchildren; one great-grandson, Tanner Pottle; and many nieces and nephews.
Memorial service 6 p.m., Tues., May 12 at Daigle Funeral Home, 40 Federal St., Wiscasset with Rev. Ronald McLaughlin officiating. Gathering of family and friends will follow at the American Legion Hall on Rt. 1 in Wiscasset.
