Geraldine Emma Kinney passed away, at home with her family by her side, on June 2. She was born in Patten on May 2, 1916, daughter of Walter B. and Irene Cunningham. She was the oldest of seven children. She attended school in Patten and was a graduate of Patten Academy.
She met James E. Kinney while he was in the Civilian Conservation Camp in Patten. They were married in Houlton on Aug. 17, 1935. She and Jim were together 64 years before he passed away on March 8, 2000. They ran the poultry farm together for 60 years and raised nine children. She was active in the Knox County Extension and TOPS where she was a leader. She was a member of the Second Congregational Church in Warren.
Her hobbies were crocheting, sewing and any type of craft. She loved playing Skip-BO and “nickels” with anyone. She enjoyed cooking and her specialties were coffee bread, rolls and angel cakes, although anything she baked or cooked was enjoyed by the family. She made sure every one of her grandchildren received a present on their birthday and at Christmas. She was always there for her family.
She and Jim enjoyed square dancing and held dances at the “Jolly Henhouse.” They also enjoyed camping and meeting up with their square dance friends.
She was predeceased by brothers, Leslie and Robert Cunningham; sisters, Virginia Cunningham, Phyllis Cunningham, and Ella Qualey; brother-in-law, George Qualey; daughter, Jean Overlock; son, James R. Kinney; and son-in-law Willis Perry.
She is survived by her sister, Betty Stephenson of Yreka, Cal.; daughters, Janice Overlock and husband Albert, Janet Perry, Joyce Campbell and husband Kenneth, Jacalyn Kinney, all of Warren, Judy Lord and husband John of Mears, Va., and Julie Kinney of Rockland; daughter-in-law, Geneva Kinney of Warren; son, Joel Kinney and wife Kathy of Waldoboro; in-laws, Charles Kinney, Alfred Kinney and wife Pearl, Arthur Kinney and wife Corinne, Virginia Wall, Eloisa Hupper, Louise Ervin, Louise Kinney, and Alice Frye and husband Don; 23 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; 13 great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
There will be a private family service.
