Gertrude Young, born in Bremen on Oct. 9, 1923, died peacefully at Hawthorne House in Freeport on March 25. She was the daughter of Lawrence and Alvada (Carter) Prior.
She was best known for her sense of humor, her “green thumb” and her ability on the sewing machine as well as her crocheting and knitting crafts.
She was predeceased by her husband of 52 years, Ernest Young; brothers, Kenneth Prior, and Floyd Carter; sister, Lucille Palino; and grandchildren, Thomas Brewer and Cathleen Cribari.
She is survived by a sister, Pauline Studley of Rockland; son, Arthur Young of Loletta, Cal.; and daughters, Georgia Brewer of North Newcastle, and Marsha Jacobs of Topsham; 18 grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren; 13 great-great-grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Services will be private. Interment will be in the Bristol cemetery in Bristol.
