Glenna Elaine Ross (Fickert), died unexpectedly on March 24 at Mid Coast Hospital in Brunswick.
Glenna was born in Middleboro, Mass. on Sept. 19, 1947. She graduated from Middleboro High School in 1965 and continued her formal education, culminating with a Masters of Fine Arts.
Glenna lived a full and enriched life. She was an avid and prolific reader of a variety of books, from plays, to history, to non-fiction. She loved the performing arts, both as a participant, teacher, and attendee. Her academic career included the teaching of English, French, literature, and the performing arts. She was happiest when interacting with her students.
She had a career change to a tour director, which eventually brought her to Maine. She had a wonderful time exploring the eastern part of the U.S. and the Maritime Provinces.
Glenna was preceded in death by her parents, Norman and Olga Fickert of Middleboro, Mass.
She leaves behind many friends, including Marian DiCanto, Gail Moore, Christine Kimball, and Barbara Fishman.
Her extended family includes her aunt, Bertha Bartlett, of Wareham, Mass.; Linda Sironi of Hansen, Mass.; Donna Kennedy of Blue Hill; and cousin, Beverly Bartlett of Blue Hill. She also leaves the “light of her life,” her cat, companion and friend, Dickens.
Glenna loved Lupine season, Pemaquid Light, blueberry pancakes, and the New England Patriots.
A time of visitation will be held from 4-6 p.m., Thurs., April 3 at the Strong-Hancock Funeral Home, 612 Main St., Damariscotta. Glenna will be laid to rest in a place she played in as a child, Nemaskett Cemetery, in Middleboro, Mass., at a date to be determined.
