Glennis Hutchinson, 84, of Whitefield, passed away on June 4, 2024 at her daughter’s home in Livermore Falls after a brief illness. She was born on Dec. 13, 1939, a daughter of Donald and Hazel (Cunningham) Jackson.
Glennis grew up in the Whitefield area and was a graduate of Wiscasset High School in the class of 1958. Following school, she was married to Earl Cooper and became a mother to six children. In her younger years, she sold Avon and later began working for the State Police in Augusta as well as AMHI. She eventually worked for Local AFSCME 74 Union where she became president and later was treasurer for the AFL-CIO Union. At the age of 58, she ultimately retired from the Department of Corrections as a C03 rank in 1995.
In 1982 she married for the second time to Jerry Hutchinson. Together they were members of the Blue Knights and enjoyed riding their motorcycles. They were blessed to have spent many winters in New Port Richey, Fla. Glennis enjoyed reading, music (especially Elvis), dancing, singing, golf, tennis, and playing slots.
She will be remembered for her outgoing personality and for being the “queen bee.”
Glennis Hutchinson was predeceased by her parents; husband, Jerry Hutchinson; her former husband, Earl Cooper, and their son, Michell E. Cooper; and her siblings, Maurice Jackson, Grace Sproul and her son, Gregg Brann; and her sister, Nancy Lee and her daughter, Wendy.
She is survived by her daughter, Valerie Colby and husband, Daniel, Veronica Hopkins and her partner, Dave Robinson; her son, Sterling Cooper and his wife, Brenda; her daughter, Kelly Spaulding and her husband, David; and her daughter, Tracy Ellis; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her sister, Rose White and her husband, Phillip; her sister, Donna Jones and her husband, Robert; and her brother, Donald Jackson and wife, Trudy.
