Gloria Jean Winslow, 69, of Nobleboro, passed away April 13 at Maine Medical Center in Portland, surrounded by her loving family.
Gloria was born Jan. 31, 1939 on Vinalhaven, a daughter of the late Lawrence Linwood Hildings and Mina Ardell Carter Hildings.
She attended Vinalhaven School and moved to the mainland when she was 16. She met and married Maynard Sanborn and they made their home in Waldoboro. Gloria went clamming with her husband and knit pot heads for many fisherman on the Maine coast.
She was an avid horse lover and over the years owned over 12 horses. She still owned a horse named Paso upon her death. She had a soft spot in her heart for injured animals and would oftentimes nurse them back to good health.
She worked at Denison Nursing Home for 10 years, ran an in-home, home health care service and was an active member of the Mobius community.
She had a special love and patience for Alice, Henry, Nathan, Brandon and Jim at Mobius. She enjoyed her computer, going camping, vacationing in Florida and dancing at Crystal Falls. She loved shopping and going to yard sales.
She was a special lady who always looked out for others, not wanting anyone to go without. She never stopped being a mother to her own as well as mothering others that she cared for.
Gloria will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.
