Gordon Harold Scott, 84, of Waldoboro, lifetime farmer, passed away Nov. 24 at Miles Memorial Hospital in Damariscotta with his family at his side.
Born Sept. 29, 1925 in Damariscotta, Gordon was the son of Ivan and Tina Day Scott, and attended Waldoboro High School until he had to leave school early to work on the family farm.
Gordon went on to own and operate his own farm, and was well known for raising broiler chickens, and Christmas trees and was a third generation blueberry grower, who hired many of the local youth to rake.
On July 20, 2004, Gordon was presented with a plaque of appreciation from the Wild Blueberry Commission of Maine for 20 years of service including three years as chairman, the years he was a volunteer at the Union Fair and the State of Maine Blueberry Festival and 10 years manning the booth at the Big E, promoting wild low bush blueberries.
He was well known at the local, county and state level, being a charter member, past secretary/treasurer, county and state director of the Knox-Lincoln County Farm Bureau, advocating in support of state legislation in Augusta for the Agriculture issues, and a member and chairman of the Maine Wild Blueberry Association.
In their work with the many associations, Gordon and wife Dorothy enjoyed traveling to Florida, California and Arizona. He also enjoyed hunting in his younger years and was a member and past Secretary/Treasurer of the Lincoln County Fish and Game and member of the Union Fair Board of Trustees.
He was a dedicated caregiver and companion to his wife, Dorothy and enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Gordon is predeceased by two brothers Frederick Scott and Ivan Scott, Jr.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Dorothy Scott of Waldoboro; son, Larry Scott and wife, Dale of Waldoboro; daughters, Susan Overlock and husband Robin of Warren,
and Linda Powell and husband Steven of Thomaston; grandchildren, Samuel Overlock and wife Jennifer of Warren, Joseph Overlock and wife Amanda of Machias, Rebecca Overlock of Tucson, Ariz.; Benjamin Scott and Daniel Scott of Waldoboro, Amanda Powell of Augusta, and Alexander Powell of Brooklyn, N.Y.; great-grandchildren, Emma and Evelyn Overlock of Warren and was looking forward to the birth of a great-grandchild in April; sister, Joyce McLain of Waldoboro; and sisters-in-law, Gloria Scott of Waldoboro and Louise Carroll of Rockland.
Committal service 11 a.m., Mon., Nov. 30 at the Shuman Cemetery, Rt. 220N, Waldoboro. Time of remembrance will be held following the service at the North Nobleboro Community Center.
