Grace E. Penniman, 75, of New Harbor, passed away on the morning of April 7 at MidCoast Hospital, Brunswick. The daughter of Walter and Estella Martin, she was born in New Harbor March 25, 1931. Grace attended Bristol schools, graduating from Bristol High School in the Class of 1949. For several years, as a young woman, she worked for the Thompson family in New Harbor and in 1951, married Maurice Penniman. Following her marriage, she began working at the Gosnold Arms, New Harbor, and in later years she worked in the seafood business with her sons. A passionate cribbage player, she and Maurice played nearly every day of their 53-year marriage, until the time of his death March 30, 2005. She was a member of the D.A.R. for many years, as well as the V.F.W. Auxiliary, Pemaquid Chapter. She leaves her two sons, Roy W. Penniman and wife Joyce of New Harbor, and Tom M. Penniman and fiancée Tracy Anderson of New Harbor; two grandchildren, Mackenzie Penniman and Troy Penniman, of New Harbor; and her cherished cat Opi. Friends are invited to be with the family 5-7 p.m., Fri., April 14 at the Strong Funeral Home, 612 Main St., Damariscotta. Service to honor Grace 11 a.m., Sat., April 15 with a reception to follow at the New Harbor United Methodist Church, Rev. Ernest Farrar officiating.
