Grace R. Fritz, 90, of Pemaquid Point and Silver Spring, Md., passed away Sept. 2 after a short illness.
Grace had been a summer resident of Pemaquid Point since 1978. Although only a seasonal resident, she was active in the community as a member of the New Harbor United Methodist Church choir, as a volunteer at the Fisherman’s Museum at the Lighthouse Park, and as a member of the Pemaquid Point Association.
She loved exploring the Midcoast and sharing the beauty of the area with her family and out-of-state visitors. Attendance at local 4th of July celebrations and Olde Bristol Days was a must. Gardening brought her much enjoyment and numerous passersby complimented her on her beautiful flowers.
An extremely creative person, she made quilts and applique hangings and enjoyed painting watercolor pictures, especially of scenes around the Point.
In addition to her family and her church, one of her joys was her career as an ESL teacher for Montgomery County, Md. schools. In addition to teaching English and American holiday traditions to immigrants, she relished learning about her students’ cultures.
She was predeceased by her husband of 65 years, Russel G. Fritz, and a grandson.
Grace is survived by children, Leslie Fritz Gauthier and Paul, Roger Fritz and JoAnne, Paul Fritz, Glen Fritz and Anne, and Laura Fritz; nine grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and constant companion, her dog Princess.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Sat., Sept. 29 at Silver Spring United Methodist Church, Silver Spring, Md. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or the American Heart Association.
