Graydon M. Smith, 84, of West Boothbay Harbor, passed away Feb. 13 at Mid-Coast Hospital in Brunswick following a brief illness.
Graydon was born in West Bath, Nov. 21, 1926, the son of Cleveland and Alice Green Smith, attending Bath schools. In his senior year, he joined the U.S. Navy. After his discharge in 1946, he returned to school to earn his diploma, and went on to attend Northeast Technical School.
He was employed by Bath Iron Works for many years, retiring as foreman in the Outside Machine shop, and was known locally as the operator of the Boothbay Harbor Parking Lot where he worked for seven years.
He was predeceased by his daughter, Kimberly Smith.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Nancy Miller Smith of West Boothbay Harbor, daughters, Traci Plummer and husband Carroll of Georgetown, Leslie Rowe and husband Steve of Chester, N.H., Karen Baty of Newport, R.I., Jenny Rice and husband Andy of Woolwich and Carolyn Brigham and husband Ray of Venice, Fla.; grandchildren, Ashley Lester of Boothbay, Prudence White of Georgetown, LTJG Christopher Rowe, USCG, of New York, PFC Tyler Rowe, USMC, of Chester, N.H., Joshua Rowe of Chester, N.H., Matthew Rice of Woolwich, Jonathan Rice of Georgetown, Shawn MacDonald of Rhode Island and AJ MacDonald of Florida; and several great-grandchildren.
A private graveside service will be held in the spring, at the Riverside Cemetery in Woolwich, with military honors.
