Guilford L. Bryant, 90, of Newcastle, passed away on Oct. 30 at the Augusta Rehabilitation Center. He was born in Athol, Mass. on Oct. 1, 1921.
Gil lived most of his life on Bunker Hill Road in Newcastle with his late wife, Ida (Chickering) Bryant. They were married Aug. 6, 1944 and had three children. In the late 40s or early 50s they moved from Massachusetts to their home in Newcastle.
When Gil first came to Maine, he worked for Roy Genthner drilling wells. He also worked many years at BIW, then at the shipyards in Boothbay. Before finally retiring at the age of 73, he worked for his son-in-law Jack Frey building homes for approximately 12 years.
Gil enjoyed tinkering in his workshop and watching old Westerns.
Gil was predeceased by his wife, Ida; brothers, Bernard and Robert; sister, Shirley; daughter, Sue Stella; and grandson, Timothy.
He is survived by his children, Alvin Bryant of Damariscotta, Paul Bryant of Nobleboro and Sylvia Frey of Newcastle; nine grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.
Services were Nov. 4 at Strong-Hancock Funeral Home where burial followed at Hillside Cemetery.
