Hallis A. Thayer, 64, of Whitefield, died on March 2 after a short illness at his home surrounded by his family.
He was born on April 5, 1946, the son of Charles and Mary Thayer.
Hal worked for Bath Iron Works as a welder for over 23 years. He was the past owner of Down East Transport and also a milk driver for many years at Purlack Dairy of Augusta.
He enjoyed fishing, playing cribbage, gambling, horse races, running bingo at Huntoon Hill Grange, and especially time spent with family and his dogs Angel and Rosie.
Hal was a past member of the Dresden Lodge, past Master of the Huntoon Hill Grange in Wiscasset and a member of the Senior Center in Wiscasset.
He was predeceased by his parents and brother, Kenneth Thayer.
Hal is survived by his wife of 44 years, Gail Thayer of Whitefield; sons, Patrick Thayer and wife Karen of Whitefield and Hallis “Chuck” Thayer II and wife Teresa of Whitefield; daughter, Tammy Thayer-Hardman and husband David Jr. of Whitefield; brother, Linwood Thayer and wife Sheila of Pittston; sister, Carolyn Bailey of Wiscasset; grandchildren, Kristy, Krystyle “pumpkin,” Seth, Patrick Jr., Courtney, Megan, Josh, Autumn, David “Boo,” Hallie, Sydnie and Brooke; and great-grandchildren, Kiana, Ashia, Rylee.
Memorial service 1 p.m., Sat., March 5 at the Huntoon Hill Grange in Wiscasset. Burial and services will be private.
In Hal’s memory donations may be made to the Wiscasset Senior Citizens, Wiscasset.
Arrangements are under the care of Kincer Funeral Home, 130 Pleasant St., Richmond.
