Harlan Atherton Swegart, 23, passed away unexpectedly on Aug. 10. He was born on Dec. 1, 1988, in Portland, the son of Phillip Swegart of Portland and Olivia Atherton of Bremen.
A 2007 honors graduate of Lincoln Academy in Newcastle, he will be remembered as a kind, gentle spirit, who would do anything to help those in need. Harlan was an intelligent and inquisitive young man, who enjoyed learning about science and music. In his free time Harlan became a proficient cook and baker.
He was predeceased by his paternal grandparents, Marianne Swegart Brock and Dr. Jack Swegart; and maternal grandparents, Camille and David Atherton.
Harlan is survived by his parents; sister, Ariel O’Reilly of Boston; stepbrother, Adam Ferguson and stepsister, Katrina Ferguson, both of Portland; stepmother, Constance Glende-Swegart of Portland; as well as many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
A private graveside service will be held for family and close friends. Memorial luncheon 11 a.m., Sat., Sept. 1 at the Muscongus Community Center, which is approximately two miles south of the Biscay Road in Bremen.
