Harold F. Duncan, 92, of Wiscasset, formerly of Gardiner, passed away Aug. 14 at Miles Memorial Hospital in Damariscotta.
He was born Feb. 25, 1915 in Presque Isle, the son of Lewis and Gertrude French Duncan.
He graduated from high school in Presque Isle where he was a farmer for 35 years before relocating to Gardiner in 1972.
Harold served honorably in the U.S. Army during WWII from 1942-1945. His headquarters and service company was the 313th Engineer Battalion where he received the Good Conduct Medal, American Defense Service Medal, and European African Middle Eastern Theater Campaign Ribbon.
He was predeceased by his brother, Merle Duncan, and his sister, Elva Annas.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Elizabeth McCann Duncan of Wiscasset; children, Susanne Soule and husband Ray of Wiscasset, Sally Lausier and husband Peter of Mobile, Ala., and John D. Duncan and wife Sally of Falmouth; sister, Madelene Merchant of Ellsworth; grandchildren, Michelle, Matthew, Nicole, Renee, Jonathon, and Caroline; 11 great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Memorial service with military honors 2 p.m., Mon., Aug. 20 at the chapel of the New Maine Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, Mount Vernon Rd., Augusta.
