Harold M. Dow, 86, of Wiscasset, died Nov. 14 at LincolnHealth – Miles Campus in Damariscotta.
He was born in Albion on Oct. 27, 1928, a son of Wilbur E. and Beulah (Haskell) Dow.
He attended Albion schools. He served in the U.S. Army from 1950 to 1952 where he obtained the rank of sergeant. He was then assigned to the 434 Construction Engineers and shipped to Korea and worked building roads into the jungle to make it passable for the troops. He was awarded the Korean Service Medal with two bronze service stars, the United Nations Service Medal and Meritorious Unit Commendation. He was then transferred to the Army Reserve until 1956. On Sept. 7, 1953 he married Gloria L. Harvey and had one daughter, Peggy Lee Dow. He spent most of his life working for different road construction outfits; operating heavy equipment around the state of Maine, then for a few years had his own general contracting business until he went to work for the town of Wiscasset. He operated heavy equipment and the grader for many years until his retirement in 1993.
He enjoyed deer hunting, fishing and loved dogs and cats.
He is survived by his wife, Gloria L. Dow of Wiscasset; daughter, Peggy Lee Voeth of Arizona; brothers, Norman Dow of Albion, and Earl Dow of Searsport; and several nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held with military honors at Greenlawn Cemetery in Wiscasset in the spring.
