Harold Sheppard Peterson (“Pete”), 80, resident of Damariscotta since 1992, passed away on Aug. 31. He was born on March 1, 1931 in Millville, N.J. and married Phyllis Kershaw Peterson of Philadelphia in 1952.
They raised a family together in southern New Jersey, but often vacationed in Maine on summer camping trips. Pete was fond of hiking the trails of Maine, and had a keen interest in sailboats, particularly the Maine schooners that had been converted from working oyster boats from New Jersey.
He worked for George K Garrett Corporation in Philadelphia as a mechanical engineer and designer in the tool and die industry. He also served in the Naval Reserves.
Pete is survived by his wife, Phyllis; sons, Mark and Eric; daughter-in-law, Beth Ann; six grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.
Funeral 2 p.m., Sat., Sept. 3 at the Water of Life Lutheran Church, 618 U.S. Rt. 1, Newcastle. He will be laid to rest at the Hillside Cemetery following the service.
