Harriet S. Zdunko-Upton, 63, of Acworth, Ga., passed away peacefully on Oct. 6 at Cape Coral Hospice Center in Florida, with her daughter, Stacy, by her side.
Born in Riverhead, N.Y. on Oct. 12, 1954 to Elaine A. and Edward J. Zdunko, she grew up there and attended local schools until transferring to Mattituck school district in 1965. At age 16 she was with child and had to leave high school but later returned to class to receive her GED.
Harriet was a bright, energetic, and fun-loving person. She was generous to the core and a good mom to her two children. She loved making people laugh. She worked at Mercy High School cafeteria in Riverhead, Eastern Long Island Hospital in Greenport, N.Y., and Baker High School cafeteria in Cape Coral, Fla.
Harriet is predeceased by her parents; sister, Christine A. Hall; nephew, Mark E. Hall; husband, Vietnam veteran Thomas C. Upton, whom she loved; and lifelong friend, Bob Baker.
She is survived by son, Robert H. Loseto of Cape Coral, Fla.; daughter, Stacy L. Losat of Ridge, N.Y.; sister, Dorothy M. MacDonald of Acworth, Ga.; brother, Stephen Dayton of Waldoboro; granddaughter, Alexandra E. Loseto; and grandson, Jacob C. Loseto, both of Cape Coral, Fla.
There will be a memorial service at a later date at Tuthill-Mangano Funeral Home, 406 East Main St., Riverhead, N.Y., followed by interment at Calverton National Cemetery.
