Harrold C. Stevens, Jr., of Damariscotta, passed away on the afternoon of March 26 at the Cove’s Edge Nursing Home in Damariscotta. Born on Jan. 6, 1923, in Flagstaff, he was the son of Harrold Sr. and Francena (Cox) Stevens.
Harrold grew up in Flagstaff and attended the Dead River Elementary School before the town was purposely flooded by Central Maine Power in 1949.
Harrold joined the U.S. Army and took part in five campaigns in Germany during WWII. Upon his discharge from the Army, he came back to Maine and started a long career in logging. He started with Herbert Craft in Wiscasset and later worked at Linwood Palmer’s Christmas Tree Farm in Nobleboro. Most recently, he worked with his good friend, Richard Verney of Alna.
He enjoyed playing BEANO, tending to his home, and he loved the outdoors.
He was predeceased by his wife, Ruth (Jackson) Stevens in 1998.
He is survived by his good friends, Richard and Phyllis Verney of Alna; as well as two cousins, Ruey Baldwin of Bangor and Marilyn Rogers of Solon.
He will be laid to rest privately, next to his wife in the Maine Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery in Augusta.
