Harry “Harv” Schoppee, 84, of Jefferson, passed away Nov. 13, at Miles Memorial Hospital in Damariscotta.
Born Oct. 17, 1925 in Jonesboro, Harv was the son of Frank and Annie Bridgham Schoppee. He attended Erskine Academy and worked at B.I.W. In 1950 he married Eleanor Francis and they made their home in Jefferson where they raised their sons.
Harv worked for Howe Fur Company in Coopers Mills before going to work for the D.O.T. in the Bridge Department, Division 5 as the painting supervisor from 1947 until his retirement in 1983.
After his retirement Harv remained very active. He and his son Dana began a firewood business and he also kept busy working at odd jobs.
He enjoyed hunting and fishing and doing anything that included the outdoors. He enjoyed his family and looked forward to their annual trip to Tennessee to visit family and friends and to go hunting.
He was a member of the Odd Fellows Club in Wiscasset.
He was predeceased by his wife, Eleanor Francis Schoppee; sons, Fred Smith and Wayne Schoppee; and sister, Lucy Crummett.
Survivors include sons, Clayburn Smith, Jr. and Alline Wood, of Hohenwald, TN and Dana Schoppee of Jefferson; grandson, Clayburn C. Thayer of Washington; granddaughter, Wendy Emory and Francis Runions of Hohenwald, TN; nephew, Mark Crummett of Alna; niece, Brenda Crummett of Skowhegan; five great grandchildren; and daughter-in-law, Diannia Smith of Linden, TN.
