Harvey “Roy” Griffin, 71, of Bristol, passed away on May 20 at Mid Coast Hospital in Brunswick, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Sullivan on Aug. 8, 1943, he was the son of Harvey and Nathalie Griffin.
Roy grew up in Bremen and attended local schools. In 1963 he married Sandra Beote Prior and together they raised her six children, and had three girls of their own. He worked for over 30 years as an auto mechanic before starting his own business, Roy’s Septic Service, in 1988.
Roy enjoyed spending time with his family and was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. He loved the outdoors, and deer hunting with his grandsons. In his spare time, he enjoyed listening to classic country music, driving his 1956 Ford Fairlane, playing one of his many guitars, visiting Hanley’s Market, and bowling.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by daughter, Carol Lee Griffin Bolduc; grandson, Joshua R. Bolduc; granddaughter, Logan G. Rice; stepson, Paul L. Prior; sons-in-law, Christopher Bolduc and Albert Westhaver; and brothers, Paul and Phillip Griffin.
He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Sandra; daughters, Karen Griffin Westhaver of Bristol, and Lisa Griffin Rice and husband Herb of Florida; step-children, Robert Prior and wife Rose of Damariscotta, Mark Prior and wife Audrey, Barry Prior, Kathy Prior and John Prior, all of Bristol; sisters, Nettie Bosworth of Nobleboro, and Leona Farrin and husband Ken of Waldoboro; brothers, Russell Griffin of Waldoboro, and Kevin Griffin of Bremen; 17 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and many great friends.
A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Fri., May 29 at St. Patrick’s Church in Newcastle, with the Rev. Kenneth Dale officiating. He will be laid to rest privately in the Bristol Mills Cemetery.
