Helen (Ralph) Eugley, 85, of Waldoboro and St. Petersburg, Fla., passed away peacefully Sept. 17 in Largo, Fla. surrounded by her family.
Helen was born on May 21, 1931, in Waldoboro, and was the daughter of Harold and Maude Ralph. On Sept. 10, 1950 she married the love of her life, Maynard Eugley, at her parents’ home in Waldoboro.
Helen attended Northeastern Business School in Portland and used her education as a partner at Harold C. Ralph Chevrolet with her husband and brother Ronald where she was known for her business sense and work ethic.
Helen was a Worthy Matron for the Grand Chapter of Maine Order of the Eastern Star and donated to many charities throughout Maine and Florida.
Helen attended First Baptist Church of Waldoboro, Orff’s Corner Community Church in Orff’s Corner, Greater Mt. Zion AME Church in St. Petersburg, and most recently attended services at the Seminole Pavilion Rehabilitation Center where she resided while recovering from a stroke.
Helen enjoyed listening to live music (especially at church), spending time with friends, traveling, shopping, dining out and playing cards. At the Pavilion Rehabilitation Center, Helen’s charisma and charm made her room the center of activity for the medical staff during their breaks. She was an avid jigsaw puzzler and looked forward to her daily bingo games in the activity room.
When Maynard was alive, they were avid dancers and loved going with “the crowd” to either Lakehurst or Sylvania dances followed by an early breakfast at one of the “crowd’s” houses! She and Maynard often entertained especially at their summer cottage on Damariscotta Lake in Jefferson. In retirement they wintered in Madeira Beach, Fla. After his death, she spent winters in St. Petersburg to be close to her daughter.
She was predeceased by her parents; her husband; brothers-in-law, Raymond Eugley, Richard Crabtree and Robert Bagley; sister-in-law, Dorothy Eugley Becker and husband John; and very dear friend, Lorena Pearson.
Helen is survived by brother, Ronald Ralph and wife Claire; sister, Greta Crabtree and companion David Sidelinger; brother, Harold Ralph Jr. and companion Alice Turner; sister-in-law, Janet Spear and husband Robert; daughter, Lori Eugley Sisler and husband John; granddaughter, Cassandra Wills and husband Andrew Coulliard; grandson, Robert Wills and wife Melody; two great-grandchildren; also many nieces, nephews and cousins. She is also survived by granddaughters, Lexi (Maltese) and Gracie (Yorkshire Terrier) who comforted her whether she was hospitalized or at home.
