Helen W. Chapman, 88, a resident of Cove’s Edge, passed away peacefully on the evening of Jan. 12 at LincolnHealth – Miles Campus after a long period of declining health.
She was born at home in Waldoboro on March 2, 1930, the ninth child of Harold Ernest Winchenbach and Ruth Mae Creamer. She grew up in Waldoboro and attended Waldoboro schools. She worked at Miles Memorial Hospital in the late 1940s and in 1948 she met and married Niven C. Chapman.
She loved shopping, crossword puzzles, bus trips, restaurants, and playing the daily numbers.
Besides her parents and 10 siblings, she was predeceased by son, Gregory, in November 1969 and daughter, Rhonda, in March 2018. She was also predeceased by grandchildren, Serena, Sherry, and Ralph F. Glidden Jr.
She is survived by children, Eva V. Glidden of Somerville, Carol Simmons of Damariscotta, Bruce T. Chapman of Damariscotta, Paulette A. Chapman of Boothbay, Jeffrey E. Chapman of Nobleboro, and Jonathan M. Chapman of Damariscotta. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and two step-great-grandchildren.
A service of remembrance will be planned in the spring.
