On Sunday, June 9, in the early hours, our world lost a friend. Henry Bromfield Cabot III, known to so many in the Midcoast and beyond as Harry, passed away at LincolnHealth’s Miles Campus, in Damariscotta, surrounded by friends and family.
Harry was born in New York City on March 17, 1953, to Henry Cabot Jr. and Caroline Foote Cabot, the oldest of three children. Harry is survived by his brother, Andrew Hull Cabot, of Lodi, N.Y. and Camilla Daher Cabot, who resides in Brazil. A half-sister, Olivia Ames Cabot, lives in Portland.
A quick wit, a free thinker, and a lover of good beer, Harry was a man with a generous nature always willing to go to bat for the underdog. Known to many for his colorful personality, Harry also had a serious side.
He attended schools in the New England area and graduated from College of the Atlantic in Bar Harbor.
Not many people realize, but back in the late ‘70s, Harry was pivotal in changing the legislation that enabled microbreweries to thrive in Maine. He was something of a visionary and often required a bit of interpretation, but his ideas were forward-thinking, community, and environmentally minded.
Born to a prominent Boston family, Harry decided early on to live life on his own terms. He marched to the beat of a different drummer, had a wide range of interests, and savored many adventures. He was an accomplished sailor and always had a boat or two. He traveled widely but always returned to his beloved Waldoboro and North Haven homes.
In 1984, in tandem with Laura Cabot, he began the area’s first farm to table restaurant, the Pine Cone Public House, located in Waldoboro. They married in 1988.
Harry married a second time, later in life, to Anya V. Cabot, who resides in the Boston area.
Visiting hours with refreshments will be held on Tuesday, June 25, 2024, from 4-6 p.m. at Hall Funeral Home, 949 Main St., in Waldoboro, with a memorial service the following day at Hall’s at noon.
The graveside service that follows will be open to close friends and family members only. Mr. Cabot will be interred at the German Cemetery.
