Henry C. Waltz Sr., 79, of Damariscotta, passed away March 5 at the Cove’s Edge Nursing Home in Damariscotta. Born on Feb. 22, 1932, he was the son of Sewall and Irene (Robinson) Waltz.
Henry grew up in Damariscotta Mills and attended local schools. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served for eight years, four on active duty and four in the reserves. In July of 1961, he married Naida Hodgkins, who predeceased him in 1996.
Upon his honorable discharge from the Navy, he began his working career at Bath Iron Works. He would eventually become a millwright and would work for several local lumberyards.
Besides his parents and wife, he was predeceased by three children, Henry Waltz Jr., Mark Waltz and stepson Vance Bailey Sr.; as well as a brother, Aubrey “Hoopie” Waltz.
He is survived by a son, Gary Waltz and wife Gwendolyn of Whitefield; step-daughter, Brenda Prior of Bremen; brothers and sisters and their families, Priscilla Hatch, Carroll and Florence Waltz, Gertrude Pinkham, Raymond and Shirley Waltz, Robert and Patty Waltz, Margaret and George (Podger) Russell, Frankie and Kathy Waltz, Judy Campbell and Arthur Dalton, and Gloria and Scotty Phillips; as well as several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
At Henry’s request, there will be no formal service.
